PROS Easy to drive Good visibility Practical storage space Quiet at high speeds Frugal engines The C3 Picasso sets out to create something that offers practicality on the inside with an individual image and funky styling on the outside. The styling certainly sets it apart from anything else this size while its clever use of space and excellent visibility give it an edge over alternatives like the Nissan Note and Vauxhall Meriva. Drive wise it is rather dull and some engines are sluggish, but what it lacks in power and excitement it makes up for in its functional use of space and size. Plenty of rear passenger space and a large boot make it ideal as a family car. Facelift in 2013 In 2013 a facelift was announced. There's a tweak to the HDi 110 engine meaning more power with the same fuel economy and emissions, while some kit was added to some of the trims and there are a few more optional extras too. The C3 Picasso was one of the first models to undergo Euro NCAPs more stringent crash tests in 2009. The new overall rating covers not only adult occupant safety but includes child and pedestrian safety along with a rear impact whiplash test - all in one score. It achieved four stars out of five which is respectable for a small car but disappointingly ESP stability control is only standard on the range-topping 1.6-litre HDi 110 Exclusive model. It's an option on other Exclusive and VTR+ versions and not even available on the VT. On the plus side all models come with dual front airbags and curtain airbags - optional on the VTR model – as well as side airbags also available on the VTR+ and Exclusive versions. The amount of space on offer in the C3 Picasso is impressive with boot space that can store a load of 385 litres with all five seats in place. Usefully the rear seats can slide forward to create a bigger boot space of 500 litres - that's more than a Honda Civic - but this does limit the amount of legroom for passengers in the back. It's clever too with an adjustable boot floor and magnetic flaps on the back seats to create a fully flat surface between the back seats and boot space.
